Fairtrade

Cumbria is a Fairtrade County, the second in England to be so designated. Commitment to Fairtrade is very strong across the county from shops to bed and breakfast establishments, businesses to local authorities and schools.

A number of churches across Cumbria already use Fairtrade products, but only the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lancaster has achieved Fairtrade certification at denominational level in our area. Many churches have not yet applied for Fairtrade status, even though they are eligible. The joint church leaders have therefore agreed that the other denominations will work to achieve Fairtrade status at this level together.

The award of Fairtrade status is a public statement of our commitment to the poor and a powerful witness to our faith.

A letter has been circulated to all church leaders with more information about this project. More information and downloadable letter is available here...
